Birkenhead shoppers to receive free blood pressure checks
‘Know Your Numbers’ campaign heading to Pyramids Shopping Centre
Do you know what a healthy blood pressure reading should look like? If the answer is anything other than ‘yes’, head to Pyramids Shopping Centre next week for free blood pressure screenings with NHS Health Check.
On Wednesday 12 September from 10am until 4pm, visitors to the Birkenhead shopping centre can meet with the NHS Health Check team, which will be raising awareness about heart health as part of the national campaign, ‘Know Your Numbers’. Free blood pressure readings will also be offered, as well as lifestyle advice.
Allan Beaumont, operations manager at Pyramids, explained that as the colder months start edging closer, now is an ideal time for members of the public to consider a quick health MOT. “This is a great opportunity for visitors to ask the professionals any questions they have regarding their blood pressure while they’re out doing their shopping with us.
“This will be our third time supporting the campaign and each event has always been extremely worthwhile, as potential problems have been spotted and caught early,” Allan said. “We encourage people to come to Pyramids, as it takes less than 60 seconds for the check to be done and the team has so much invaluable knowledge to share on staying healthy.”
Know Your Numbers is organised by the charity, Blood Pressure UK, and runs from Monday 10 September until Sunday 16 September. This year it will be offering 250,000 free blood pressure tests across the country.
Cllr Chris Jones, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, Wirral Council, added: “The message to people is to take charge of their health and get their blood pressure checked. Blood pressure is one of the most preventable and treatable conditions but remains one of the leading causes of death.
“As an individual having your blood pressure checked is the most important step that you can take to reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack or heart failure.”
Free blood pressure checks, and health advice will be offered to Pyramids Shopping Centre visitors between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday 12 September outside Next and Boots Opticians.
