Free books for babies and children at Pyramids

BookStart offering introductory reading packs

Parents and caregivers visiting Pyramids Shopping Centre tomorrow will be able to pick up a brilliant Bookstart Baby bag, as part of a national charity initiative.

The team from Wirral Libraries will be at the Birkenhead shopping centre on Friday 21 February from 11am until 1pm outside Next, where they will be handing out complementary reading packs to those who haven’t already received one and their baby is under a year old.

Wirral Libraries’ partner, BookTrust is the UK’s largest reading charity and will be providing the goodie bags through its gifting programme, Bookstart, which aims to encourage family members to engage with their babies through reading activities from a young age.

This packs will include two board books, a rhyme sheet and a booklet of tips and ideas about sharing books with children from a very young age. There will also be a free item for little ones under five years old available.

Allan Beaumont, operations manager at Pyramids Shopping Centre, said this is a great opportunity for growing families to receive quality books and helpful information. “We are delighted to continue supporting the Bookstart programme at Pyramids. It offers a fantastic introduction to reading stories, rhymes and singing songs to babies during the crucial developmental years.

“It also encourages enjoying books for pleasure and how the pastime is hugely beneficial for developing imagination and creativity. We look forward to seeing many visitors on the day.”
