Shopping centre to host free art workshops this summer

Pyramids Shopping Centre is one of four venues in Birkenhead that will host a series of free, creative workshops that will be coming to town this week.

From Tuesday 30 July until Friday 2 August, ‘Reach for the Stars’ – presented by Williamson and Priory Friends and Wirral Methodist Housing Association – will offer a fantastic chance for event-goers to let their creative spirit and imagination run free.

The drop-in art sessions will take place in the former Menkind unit between 12pm and 3.30pm each day. Visitors of every age will be able to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into painting, printing, collaging and more.

A team of local artists will also be there to offer help and advice on how to take creations to dizzy new heights, with designs to be displayed in the unit for all to view. Allan Beaumont, operations manager at Pyramids Shopping Centre, is delighted to provide a platform for this family-friendly event.

He commented: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Williamson and Priory Friends and Wirral Methodist Housing Association back to Pyramids. Similar events we’ve held in the past have been a huge hit and I’m sure Reach for the Stars will be no exception.

“The workshops are free of charge and offer a hugely fun way to spend quality time with family and friends, no matter the creative ability,” he said. “We’ve seen on many occasions just how talented the people of Birkenhead are and we look forward to another fantastic display this time around too.”

The 20-year collaboration between Williamson and Priory Friends and Wirral Methodist Housing Association has been offering local people of all ages the chance to work with professional artists developing skills and confidence, seeing their artwork exhibited publicly in the Williamson Art Gallery as well as making new friends and having fun.

Cathy Warren, community arts facilitator, said: “The artistic team behind Reach for the Stars is delighted to return to The Pyramids for another series of exciting and creative workshops where we always have a great reception.

“We are especially pleased to have the support of Wirral Borough of Culture for our art programme this year.”

More workshops will be taking place throughout July and August at Williamson Art Gallery, Beaconsfield Community House and Bidston Rise Community House.

The ‘Reach for the Stars’ free art workshops will be at Pyramids Shopping Centre from Tuesday 30 July until Friday 2 August in the former Menkind unit from 12pm to 3.30pm. Children attending the drop-in sessions must be accompanied by an adult.
